Did you ever find yourself in a certain situation, good or bad, and say to yourself, “How did I get here?”

Well, the answer is (almost) always because of the choices you’ve made in life.

  • Are you happy in your job? I bet you can point to some choices you made about whether to accept the offer that led to your current position.

  • Are you unhappy with your fitness level? Similarly, you can probably see that being overweight is the result of choices you’ve made.

See, personal accountability and responsibility are what drive us through life. I’m not saying this to make you feel like a superstar or to make you feel like you have terrible judgment.

I’m saying this to show you that today is all we have, and we need to start making choices right now that show an eye for the future. Not “Someday” Future, but “In 5 Minutes” Future.

If I choose to eat that entire cheesecake, I’m probably not going to want to go to the gym tonight… So, I might choose, instead, to have some wine and watch TV… Which might cause me to feel sluggish all day tomorrow and miss the gym again after work.

And on and on.

In this way, it’s easy to see how our present circumstances are the result of all our previous decisions.

The future? Choose to begin it right now. Because it’s all a choice.
