One of the oldest jokes in fitness is about how gyms are always packed in January but clear out by February 1.

Get it? So many people rush in to start the new year “right,” but then get frustrated and quickly give up.

Well, this year might be different, given the ongoing pandemic and latest variants, but the point remains: It’s funny because it’s true.

Don’t let the joke keep you on the couch. This year, turn it upside down by making smarter choices about how you’re going to attack your goals. Moderation is good. Slow starts can be awesome. Changing little by little beats trying to Do Everything At Once.

And that’s no joke because small things lead to big results over time.
